What are the benefits of a home network?
Many homes have more than one computer but these
computers are not able to 'communicate' with each other.
Files must be placed on a floppy or CD before being
transferred to the other PC for subsequent editing or
printing. Additionally, use of the Internet requires
that each system have access to a phone line, DSL or cable
connection. If your children have homework requiring them to
research a subject on the Internet, they must wait in line.
Benefits of a home network:
- You can share your Internet connection between all of
the PCs on the network. You can all 'surf the web'
simultaneously using a single phone line, cable or
DSL Internet connection. This alone offers you an
immediate return on your investment.
- You can now share files, CD drives, printers and
scanners. Everyone has full access to all of your
networked resources.
- Backing up important files can now be centralized.
You no longer have to run backups from each individual PC.
You now have the ability to run your backup from one PC
and capture files from all of the other PCs on your
network.
- The family can now play multi-player games together or
add an Internet camera to your network permitting you to
watch your home while you are away.
Security is an issue that should be addressed by
utilizing a firewall and anti-virus software. We have
expertise installing Cisco's PIX, Symantec, and ZoneAlarm
Pro firewalls as well as Norton's and PC-cillin 2000
anti-virus software.
