Network Monitor

What types of network monitoring models are available to me?

The models outlined below represent those most sought after in the industry. They provide your organization with either an automated or fully manned proactive solution for maintaining your network resources by partnering with our Network Operation Center's support team. Should your needs differ from the models presented below, we'll be happy to configure a model that satisfies your requirements.

Model 1: Network Monitoring - Basic

This model provides automated network monitoring and notification services. Digital Business Option’s network technicians provide:

  • Automated network monitoring during normal business hours or on a 24 X 7 basis.
  • Real-time fault protection.
  • Instant notification to the customer designated technical contact via email or pager.
  • Monthly activity report summaries and network availability reports.

Model 2: Network Monitoring - Advanced

This model provides network monitoring, fault management and reporting for your LAN and WAN equipment including telco lines. Digital Business Option’s network technicians perform:

  • Remotely manned network monitoring during normal business hours or on a 24 X 7 basis.
  • Network Identification: Map your network reflecting LAN/WAN topology, addresses, circuit identification numbers, and contact information.
  • Problem detection: Network monitoring of your LAN and WAN equipment including telco lines.
  • Problem diagnosis: Our Network Operation Center will utilize their technicians to confirm and diagnose the issue within the customer's LAN/WAN environment.
  • Problem Resolution: Network technicians will provide network fault resolution including testing connectivity between network equipment and carrier lines as well as verify fault correction with your telco, ISP etc..  We will contact the appropriate resources defined within the Service Level Agreement (SLA) in order to resolve the issue.
  • Problem Documentation: We take responsibility for handling all aspects related to the escalation and resolution of problems with the appropriate repair entities. Issues are logged in our web accessible trouble ticket database system.
  • Reporting: Along with your ability to access your companie's information on our web enabled system 24x7x365, we also provide a monthly report of all trouble tickets and network performance including circuit availability.

Model 3: Network Performance Management

The Network Operation Center monitors your LAN/WAN network while collecting performance data. The data is measured against a baseline of normal usage, and then presented on graphs and reports. The information is available to you via our web based reporting system or we will email them to you. This service enhances the Advanced Network Monitoring service described above. This model provides the following features:

  • Network Exceptions

  • Network baseline trending

  • Critical network situations to watch

  • Bandwidth Utilization

  • Network Errors

  • Network Availability

  • Network Latency

  • Buffer and CPU utilization for routers

  • Disk space, services and CPU utilization for servers

  • Network analysis of the reports outlined above by an assigned account engineer

  • Weekly review of performance data and email notification of problem areas

  • Analysis of problem areas and recommendations to resolve them

  • report of the most critical network situations to watch

  • Quarterly written analysis reports focusing on network capacity and problem areas

These reports are required for informed capacity planning, as well as documentation supporting budget requests.

 

Model 4: Router & Switch Configuration Management

Digital Business Option's Managed Router service is a flexible service that provides direct management of customer routers and switches.  When combined with our Network Monitoring service, router management provides a complete and reliable end-to-end network solution. This model provides the following features:

  • Configuration management of your Routers and Switches. This includes maintaining the IP routing tables, restoring dial-up configurations along with port configurations
  • Configuration storage on DBOpt’s servers equipped with tape backup. This process assures correct recovery in case of router failure
  • Dial-in capabilities may be incorporated into critical sites permitting remote configuration access
  • Remote network monitoring during normal business hours, or on a 24x7 basis
  • Real-time fault detection
  • Notification to the customer designated technical contact within 15 minutes of an event
  • Complete ownership of problem through resolution
  • Automatic escalations to ensure trouble tickets are processed in a timely manner
  • Trouble ticket tracking against carrier or responsible vendor
  • Complete backup of router/switch configuration and management
  • Device restoration and recovery support
  • Dispatch initiation of carrier technicians or hardware service providers
  • Web Presentation of online trouble ticket tracking database
  • Monthly trouble ticket report summaries and network availability reports

 

Model 5: Turnkey Network Management.

(Requires Models 2, 3 and 4)

  • Configure, install, and support your networks
  • Maintain network documentation
  • Order circuits and vendor equipment
  • Problem isolation and resolution at second level and higher
  • Back up your router's configuration
  • Management of complex problems and escalation of other vendors' technical support departments
  • Remote support for configuration changes and new feature enabling
  • Network configuration control and periodic audits
  • Weekly conference call attendance for on status work
  • One remote IOS upgrade per year
  • Periodic on-site visits
  • Dial backup maintenance

Bandwidth Utilization reports can reflect a  problem present in many organizations--the Company experiences heavy traffic on some links for a portion of the day and barely uses other links for the majority of the day. By identifying these inefficiencies and rebalancing the network load, the Company can re-deploy capacity and resources where they are needed the most.
